Weekend Inspiration: Festivals

A few weekends ago, I had the absolute pleasure of heading to Coney Island with my sister and a big crew of friends for the Mermaid Parade. Nothing says summertime quite like men and woman dressed as nature’s elusive wonder, or free summer festivals for that matter. From movies and music in the park to the food markets that take over every weekend, summer is all about the festival.

This weekend we are headed to a wine-oyster shindig at Brooklyn Oenology with’s resident wine guru Jeff Harding. And next weekend, I’m putting my chefs jacket back on for a sweets party in honor of the Olympics. If you’re in New York, join Miss Katzie and I at London Candy Co. for our first Drury Lane pop-up, complete with Summertime Peach Sticky Toffee Pudding, Eton Mess topped with the mulberries I foraged, and a Milk Chocolate Yorkie. (Tickets are available at London Candy Co., and a portion benefits Catholic Big Sisters and Big Brothers.)

As for this weekend, check out the paper, scour the web, and find whatever festival strikes your fancy. That’s what the summer is all about, right?
